Users & Groups

The Metadot User, Group and permission structure has been carefully thought out and implemented in order to give complete flexibility over who can do what on the Web site.  To begin with we have four types of user:

• Public
• Logged in users
• Site managers
• Administrator (special user with the ability to change the site configuration)

Before you can login to a Metadot site you must first be a registered user.  How you register depends on how the site has been configured, there are lots of ways in which this can be done depending upon requirements.  The simplest form is 'self registration' - which is what we use on our site.

If you click on the register button at the top of this page you can experience the registratin process.  Note: we only ask you for a small set of information to register, for your site you can ask for any collection of data that you feel is appropriate.  If you don't want to register, you are welcome to use our guest login.  The email address is guest@hciyork.co.uk and the password is 'secret'.

Once you are logged in you will see a Members' Area magically appear.  You will also be able to post to the discussion forum and reply to existing posts.  If you use the Search facility and the Site Map both logged-in and logged-out you will see that they only show content that you are allowed to see.
